Ufological Cannibalism: An Objective Reality, or Just Erroneously Believed?
Greetings. There is a belief in UFO circles that the field eats its own, that people of some notoriety interact with each other in a belligerent and counter-productive manner, but is this a proven reality, or just a mistaken axiom that has been passed down as the years have gone by?
An essential part of the scientific method is the objective examinination of other's work, research, and proposed theories, all for the purpose of weeding out invalid conclusions and foundationless hypotheses, ideas that don't hold up after independent scrutinization. Such labors are not seen as negative in nature, but are in fact a highly productive series of routines that the scientific research community has embraced and endorsed for decades.
In the UFO subculture, the sitch is distinctly different. People who are well-known in the UFO hippodrome tend to not question the points of view of their ufological peers, choosing a "love and light" approach, void of the sort of endeavors undertaken by the scientific community.
What do I mean by "love and light?" Take a look at the innumerable platforms and websites dedicated to the UFO subject. The vast majority don't question anything being done or promoted, nor are unprofessional behaviors called out and inspected. In fact, anything perceived as skeptical or interrogative is ignored, not given equal attention, or simply not allowed. The end result of this tactic is the echo chamber that dominates the UFO landscape today. Everyone gets along, terms like "dear friend" are thrown around like baseballs on opening day, and nothing mundane is ever part of any discussion. Just one big happy UFO family.
If the UFO subculture ate its own, as some seem to believe, then some people would have exited the arena, or would have been ostracized by the UFO masses, but that does not ever occur. Corey Goode, the recently deceased Nick Pope, and some others have been shown to be frauds, by the efforts of the few researchers currently active that have not willingly abandoned their professional integrity. Yet, have Goode and the others disappeared from the game? No, they are still around, and their followers have steadfastly remained loyal to their prophets.
John Ventre, a member of the Mutual UFO Network, who posted a racist rant on Twitter a few years ago, is still active in UFO circles. The late Wendell Stevens, who served time in prison for sexual crimes against children, was welcomed back into the fold after his release. You would think that the UFO subculture would police itself in an effort to keep the criminal elements out of the picture, but sadly, this is not the case, and perhaps, it never has been.
The UFO subculture is not cannibalistic. If anything, it is the exact opposite, an all-inclusive club that admits all excepting the skeptical.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
